JAMEY JOHNSON ARTICLE - Aol's The Boot
Jamey Johnson Driven By Fans, Not Awards
Jamey Johnson is the envy of a lot of fellow artists right now. Nominated for four CMA awards, including New Artist and Album of the Year, it's certainly an honor to be recognized by the industry. But for Jamey, it's really all about the fans.
"When we go out on the stage every night, we never know what to expect, but every night there they are," he tells Michigan radio station B93. "They're excited, they're passionate, they're enjoying this music for the same reason that we do. And we are them. We're not prima donna musicians that came to Nashville and got everything handed to us. These guys have had to hang drywall, paint and cut grass. When you've worked for it that way, you appreciate it so much, standing on that stage and delivering that music to people who are delivering it right back by singing along with every song that we do. That's worth more to me than any awards show or ceremony or plaque. The only thing that drives me and my guys is those people. Why else would you do it?"
Jamey also believes there are more than a few artists out there who try too hard. His philosophy is not to try pleasing everyone else. "I just think when it comes to music, the most original stuff you're gonna get is the stuff that just happens," he reasons. "You can't go back in and ... suck out the vibe of it, or suck out the spontaneity of it. It's not going to work."
Next up for Jamey is a special performance at the 2nd Annual ACM Honors event, Sept. 22 in Nashville. Performing three songs by one of his musical heroes, Hank Williams Jr., Jamey will be joined by Lee Ann Womack, Vince Gill, Patty Loveless, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood and Randy Houser.

Jamey~Keep it goin~~ Loved you before they knew you! Massachusetts loves in the sunshine or in the RAIN--We were there at the Big E--You, of course, were terrific. We're lovin you in the North too. Good luck with the awards-you deserve them.
Just e-mailed Kat Country (Charlotte) for the second time about no Jamey Johnson air play on their station. Obviously the first e-mail didn't help cause I have yet to hear them play My Way To You yet. Keep contacting your radio station and let them know Jamey Johnson fans are growing, we are not going away, but we can turn our radios off. Going to see Jamey in Raleigh on Oct 19th, so if Kat Country has a booth at the concert please join me in telling them in person that Jamey deserves better from them!!
Jamey - you are the real deal and there's not a lot of that out there these days.
I finally heard MY WAY TO YOU this afternoon on one of the stations that I have been calling. It felt so good to hear it, not only for me but for Jamey and his band. It was a totally different feeling because I knew that there were thousands of listeners that have never heard him listening to him for the first time...and it was awesome!

Just wanted to send out a note to everyone to spread the news to the local radio stations, big and small— to get those radio stations playing “My Way to You” & “Nothing is Better Than You” or even his other one he has been playing at some of his shows, "Back to Macon". If we all work together to promote Jamey Johnson’s new music we can make a difference whether Mercury releases his new album or not!! Let’s let the radio waves know that there are Jamey Johnson fans out here that would like to hear more real country music that Jamey is singing—not all the bubble gum, over produced stuff that they tend to over play….Write to the stations, call to the stations, let all the country websites know that we are out here to promote Jamey and his music and the new album!! We are willing to put our money behind Jamey Johnson who is the best artist this decade has seen!! Let the record companies know we are serious to hear Jamey’s new album—his music is our lives, too—his band mates play just as hard at all the shows—we can feel all the passion they play!! Jamey needs all of us to band together to help get things moving for the new album to get released—get those radio stations playing “My Way to You” or “Nothing is Better Than You” or even "Back to Macon". THIS IS MAKE OR BREAK IT TIME. Any responses you get send to the country websites, & Mercury Records and let them know we are going to be heard!! Remember: TO HELP JAMEY NOW IS A GIFT HE WILL NEVER FORGET!!
Congratulations to you and the band on your nominations. As you well know you are the next master and legend of country music ! What a great feeling it must be for all of you. I had the pleasure of meeting Jason " Rowdy" and Wayd after the concert in Rochester, MN. Nice to see a group of home spun boys entertaining the masses and loving every minute of it. Florianne, Your number 1 fan !!
