Runnin' And Gunnin'

Just checking in and wanted to update you on what's been going on lately. I've been runnin' and gunnin' since we released the record in August. It's been cool cause I've gotten to meet tons of fans out on the road. In Sept I took the guys to New York City. We did the Imus in the Morning Show and then played a set with the amazing Lee Ann Womack. It was my first time in the city and I loved it. We got a car and headed down to the World Trade Center Site which was mind blowing then we headed to Little Italy for a great dinner. I couldn't get over how many people were in Times Square. Very cool.

After NY we headed to Boston to play Farm Aid. What an honor that was. I got to hang on the bus with Willie Nelson for a while after our set and I had him sign "old Maple". What an awesome day.

We are all over the map these days...I hope to see some of y'all at a show soon. Thanks for all of your great emails and all the support you've shown me.  Oh and thanks for the phone messages too, keep them coming at my number (615)823-5592.

God Bless, JJ

I am going to the Rock Co. Fair show tomorrow night 7/29. Will be my first show! The comments I read on here are interesting. I guess I have no expectations except that the guy I see is real. Whether that is good or bad. Shit, as cool as we all think being a country star is, it is still "work" to the star. And work sucks sometimes. Excuse for telling a crowd to "F" off, no, but it happened. Do you bail on a guy at the first sign of problems... I guess some of you do. Think of every legend in country music. Everyone of them- Hank, Hank Jr., Waylon, Willie, Loretta, Dollie, etc... all have hit serious rough times. I think King George Strait is the only one that has seemed to avoid something. I am a bit sad to hear the rough time is when I am going to see him, but it is what it is. And for everyone ripping him, you have no clue what is going on in his life? None. You can try to guess but you have no idea. I don't think Jamey is trying to put on a bad show. You feel you wasted your money. Whatelse do you waste money on? If you got a shitty show, hey, you got a REAL show. Not covered up in lights and lip syncing. Just stay safe Jamey. Ride Easy. No matter what is going on, I am not sure when or how, but it gets better.

Hey ...... saw you last week at the jamboree in the hills ... And wanted to say THANK You for bein' there ... Same as last year, your show makes the week for me. Thanks for the lyrics and thanks for doin' it like you do .... What The Hell Did I Do Last Night/Story of My Life ....... & the the Church Parking Lot & the line between Eveeeel & Good... all of it (been there- especially looking at the crosses & all) - just so right on & genuinely sang/expressed ... I get it more than I ever wanna admit, but it all sounds so much better in the songs than when it's all actually goin' down. In the name of Waylon & Everything Else Holy, Cait LOL... Shut UP ... I'll Sing When I'm ....... you know. That was Great.

My husband and I saw you perform last night and as always you were smoking. This new CD is going to be a huge hit. We saw you almost a year ago at Beach Wagon, Myrtle Beach, SC and you were ripping it then too. We are waiting on September to get the new CD and show our support. I love the shows, so keep them coming. (Of course get some rest too) come back to SC as often as you can and my husband, Jack and I will be there. He has seen Hank over 20 times and I want to beat that record. I told him you are a way better act and singer than Hank. Of course Hank is good, no pun inteneded but you get what I mean. Jamey your voice if off the charts and brings you back to the way country should be. Thanks Jack and Karen Bodiford

I ordered my VIP tickets for Jamey's free concert, on July 23rd at Fort Eustis VA, almost 4 months ago. I was so excited to get to see him live, after being so moved by his music. I gave up country 20+ years ago because there was just nothing worth listening too. Then some one turned me on to "High Cost of Living". For some of uss those words hit real close to home. I have seen some hard core men get tears in their eyes from those words. Jamey has been quoted as "wanting to move people". Well Jamey, you moved me at your show on the 23rd. Moved me right on to listening to someone else. Being a renegade, anti-establishment, anarchist is a good thing, but when you turn against the folks that are supporting you it just makes you a typical country music "prima donna". Making folks wait in 105° heat for 4 hours, forgetting the lyrics to your songs, and acting like you'd have preferred to be anywhere else in the world, that's just arrogance and over-indulgence. Maybe your forte is just writing and not performing. I hope that you will self evaluate real soon and make some changes. If you don't, you'll be just another Jim Morrison-Janis Joplin-Hank Williams. They killed themselves for "their art". How easy is that??

I saved up to take my little brother to see his hero . The concert was good but I spent 600.00 on tickets to hear 30 minutes of concert. Matt was VERY dissapointed as well as everybody else at the concert. I love my little brother to death and will have to work like hell next week in 100 degree temps. to pay for the suckiest concert I have ever been to. Jamey Johnson says he dont care about the money but the people that come to see him do. If he is going to do this he should be like all the other nashville money hungry entertainers who most workin men cant afford to go see. While Jamey Johnson is riding around in his big air condition bus Im going to be workin my ass off to pay for a trip for my little brother that sucked. Thanks bud, your little hero is not your hero anymore.

We were at your show last night. It was a great show like always. Hope to see you at the National in September. Hope to hear you play more of your music. Don't get me wrong I love Hank, Merle and Vern and so on. I cut my teeth on there music and still do listen to them religiously. There are so many awesome songs that you have yourself that people like me and many others like to hear. Everyone knows In Color, everyone knows dinosaur, they probably would enjoy hearing Ray Rays Juke Joint, Redneck Side of Me, Back to Caroline, and all of your killer songs. I am not sure what is up with the no picture policy. I understand no videos. I was thought picture came along with fame. There are only fout things that I can think of that people do at a show as good as yours is to hear awesome music, get drunk, meet good people like you and take pictures. But don't get me wrong, this will not keep me from seeing another one of your shows. We have seen 8 within two years. God Bless, keep safe and keep jammin.

My husband and I first saw you in concert twice in Okla. We both love your music. Just when we think one of your songs is the best and cannot be any better, you come out with lots more songs that are better. You are amazing song writer and artist. We were able to meet you and take pictures with you. You signed our t-shirts, albums and even spent time talking with us. We listen to your songs constantly. My husband is always looking on the internet to see if he can find anything new you have and we play it 20 times and over. Your life story is amazing, and you can tell all your songs are from the heart. We love you and can't wait to get your new album. I know you are on your way to be the biggest and best country singer/song writer ever. We are your biggest fans and look forward to seeing you again at one of your concerts or even a beer joint somewhere. Love ya!

Jamey, I was at the Lynchburg show last nigh in Virginia. First let me say that I'm a big fan. I have been following your work since you wrote "Give it away". I grew up in Nashville and have been around blue grass players all my life. I like real music by real people, BlueBird, commodore, people trying to make it stuff. I respect the heart I hear in what you write and the pure country roots. I enjoyed on different levels almost every song you played. I think you know better than I that there were more than a few problems with your performance. Please remember that your fans are fans of Jamey Johnson and they just want to hear your stuff. It doesn't mean all that great country music isn't great when you perform it(and your fans appreciate hearing it from you), but you have a fan base that likes YOUR work. The other issue is you need to party after the show not before. I'm not telling you what to do, but if you want people to come to a second, third or fourth show, it will probably help if you don't lecture your fans about how much more you know about country than they do, and kick them out for requesting your songs... Those that got the most upset with what you were saying were probably the ones who love country the most. They were the ones you saw heading for the door in anger. The ones who didn't care were the ones your words had no effect on (the ones who stayed). They would have been there drunk and ignoring anyone on that stage. What good does an action like that do when you only offend a real fan, and have no effect good or bad on the rest(club kids). I know you have people trying to tell you what good music is all the time, change a little of this and a little here... If you want to tell someone to shut their hole, say it to those music row know it alls that think they know what good music is, and not to the people who listen to it. In the end aren't they the ones who really decide that anyway? I sincerely hope you continue to do well. I think your good at what you do and I will continue to listen.
